Hyundai Hope On Wheels, the nonprofit organization supported by Hyundai Motor America and its U.S. dealers, recently announced the 2024 winners of its annual research and programmatic grants. This year, Hyundai Hope On Wheels awarded an impressive $26 million to 91 institutions nationwide that are focused on improving treatments and saving the lives of children battling cancer.
The 2024 grants include 27 Hyundai Scholar Hope Grants at $400,000 each, 14 Hyundai Young Investigator Grants at $250,000 each, and 50 Hyundai Impact Grants at $100,000 each. With this latest round of funding, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has now surpassed a lifetime donation total of over $250 million in support of more than 1,300 childhood cancer research grants.
What started as a local initiative by New England Hyundai dealers in 1998 has grown into a nationwide movement that has benefited over 25,000 children and their families across the U.S. Hyundai Hope On Wheels has established itself as a leader in corporate social responsibility within the automotive industry and is now one of the largest pediatric cancer charities in the country.
The grants are awarded to eligible Children's Oncology Group member institutions in three categories. The Hyundai Scholar Hope Grant and Hyundai Young Investigator Grant are competitively selected two-year awards for innovative research, while the Hyundai Impact Grant is a one-year award providing funding for childhood cancer research, programmatic support, or patient assistance programs.
During National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, grant winners will be celebrated at Hyundai Hope On Wheels Handprint Ceremonies. At these signature events, children impacted by cancer, along with doctors, researchers, and Hyundai representatives, place their handprints on a white Hyundai vehicle to commemorate their brave battles and shared hope for a cure.
