The midsize SUV segment is large. As young adults in the expansive Millennial demographic begin to have children, demand for these spacious and versatile vehicles is surging, leading to a proliferation of models. That's why it's frightening to think that out of all of them, only two have headlights the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates as Good.
One of them happens to be the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, which also earned a Top Safety Pick+ award for its safety overall.
Headlights are often overlooked, perhaps because they only used after the sun goes down. However, during the long nights of winter when driving after dark is unavoidable, the quality of your headlights becomes critical. IIHS Senior Research Engineer Matt Brumbelow explains:
"Finding your way down a road at night is even harder when the headlights on your vehicle aren't up to the job—and that's what we've found again and again when we've tested headlights on different types of vehicles for how well they let you see at night."
