The 2014 New York International Auto Show, held between April 18 and April 27 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, has unleashed plenty of variety and some noticeable modern surprises. The annual trade show in Manhattan showcases new models and features for the auto industry, the press, and the public. The 2015 Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Limited Edition was much anticipated, along with the following other new models.
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible
Based on the Stingray, the
new Corvette Z06 is a supercar that has a 625-horsepower engine with
a 6.2-liter V8. The most fascinating innovation about the Z06 Convertible
is its lightweight removable open-roof folding top. The model comes with
either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. The
carbon fiber hood, front splitter, rear spoiler, and wider rear
wheels (12 inches wide and 20 inches in diameter) emphasize the car's
sporty image and aerodynamic innovation. The vehicle’s fully wrapped interior
is covered with soft materials such as leather, aluminum, and carbon fiber
with stronger-yet-lighter-than-steel seats bound by magnesium frames.
Honda Acura TLX
The new luxurious TLX
sedan marks a return to the Acura's high-tech image, following consolidation
within its line of models, as it replaces the TSX and TL sedans with a slightly
smaller frame. The sleek and sporty car is powered by a 206-horsepower, 2.4-liter,
4-cylinder engine with direct injection, which is complemented by 8-speed dual
clutch transmission and Super Handling - All-Wheel Drive technology. A
more powerful model will include a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6
engine.
The mid-size deluxe car was revealed earlier in the year at the Detroit motor show. Some of its instantly eye-catching features include LED headlights, side view mirrors, and alloy wheels with a diameter of 20 inches. Other stunning features include a cloud-based security and connectivity system, blind spot indicator, and adaptive cruise control. The interior, which is more spacious than the previous model, is loaded with tech controls and a curvy dashboard.
Hyundai Sonata
The 2015 Hyundai Sonata
combines elements of the HCD-14 with interior and exterior features of the new
Genesis. The Korean car's face uses attractive polygonal lights and grille
shapes with body sides that are very similar to the 2014 model, available
at McCafferty Hyundai Sales in Langhorne. The panoramic roof option
is also continued on the new model. Subtle differences include a slightly
taller and wider frame; a safer, stiffer body; and higher set tail lights.
Other new safety features include driver knee airbags, blind spot detection,
automatic high beams, radar cruise control, and a lane departure warning
system.
Another new design to the Sonata is an angular interior that replaces the symmetrical dashboard. Heated and cooled front seats will make the driver more comfortable, along with expanded rear knee room. Hyundai will announce official engine specs later in the year, although the automaker has already mentioned three different options, with the most powerful being a 2.4-liter, 190-horsepower engine. The company is currently working on 8- to 10-speed transmission systems, but the initial model may be a 6-speed.
