The McCafferty Hyundai of Langhorne, PA, team is proud to be part of the Hyundai family, a "thoughtful kind of car company”. Hyundai is all about serving the communities in which they operate and do business as part of "corporate social responsibility”. The Hyundai Hope on Wheels program was created in 1998 as a way of giving back, with money donated to pediatric cancer research for every Hyundai sold in the United States. The signature program has donated $72 million in grants to children's hospitals across the country so far. Let's take a deeper look at what makes this program so special to us, and how we work with other charitable organizations:
Hope on Wheels Scholars Tour
The Hyundai team began touring the country in 2010 on behalf of cancer research and awards 50 $100,000 payments to scholars each year!
Mothers Against Drunk Driving
Hyundai partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving in 2005, a program that educates high school students on the many dangers of drinking and driving. In recent years we expanded our partnership with this vital program and are now a presenting partner for "Walk Like MADD", one of Mothers Against Drunk Driving's biggest 5K events.
Hyundai Cancer Institute
In May of 2011 Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Hope on Wheels announced a $10 million dollar donation to the Children's Hospital in Orange County, California. The largest corporate gift in the hospital's history, it was used to fund pediatric cancer research at the Hyundai Cancer Institute.
The Ellen Show
Hyundai Hope on Wheels partnered with The Ellen Show in November 2012. The Langhorne, PA, team applauded as the talk show queen presented several special guests with brand-new Hyundai vehicles. The guests came on the show to share their compelling stories; vehicles given away included the Santa Fe Sport, Sonata Hybrid, Veloster Turbo, Sonata Turbo and Elantra GT. Ellen also made a point of talking about Hyundai Hope on Wheels and the impact the charity has made on pediatric cancer research.
YNOT Foundation
The YNOT Foundation is an example of Hyundai's efforts to improve the communities it serves, with it recently assuming responsibility for the Pacific Bridge Adult Residential Facility for people with disabilities. YNOT subsequently started a renovation project in the Koreatown section of Los Angeles for a second residential facility dedicated to providing linguistically and culturally-sensitive care, support and housing for developmentally-challenged adults.
Habitat for Humanity
A partner of Habitat for Humanity Orange County for many years, the Hyundai team has dedicated thousands of hours to building homes for those in need. Services include home repairs and renovations, and affordable housing construction.
Focus: HOPE
Every year the Hyundai team participates in the Detroit for the North American International Auto Show. We understand how cold winter is in the Motor City, which is why we donate 1,000 winter coats to our Coats for Kids program. We continue to work with the Focus: HOPE foundation to ensure children enjoy a warm winter.
American Red Cross
In November 2012 Hyundai donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross for relief efforts concerning Hurricane Sandy, which devastated much of the East Coast, particularly New York and the famous Jersey Shore.
These are just some examples of the many ways Hyundai gives back! We at the Langhorne, PA, location are very grateful to be part of a company who cares so much about the communities it serves and the country at large.
